The animals can be trekked in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park where the mountain gorillas live. The gorilla trekking is restricted to a handful number of people at a time to ensure that the ecosystem is not disturbed and the animals to not adapt to other behaviors or get contagious to diseases. The gorillas live in their natural habitat in close knit family groups. They are more of human beings living in families, showing affection to each other and possessing some gestures just like the human beings.

Gorilla & Chimpanzee Trekking in Uganda and Rwanda can be done throughout the year but the best time to visit is through the dry season which lies between the mid-December to February and June to September. One needs to be prepared as the day might be very tough, there are steep slopes and might be wet and muddy.  Once a family has been spotted, usually you can observe it for an hour before returning to your lodge.
