Day itinerary for Ngorongoro Crater Day Excursion

At 0700 hrs the tour guide or driver will pick you from your place of residence or hotel and proceed for Ngorongoro Crater where you will enjoy your day excursion. Before the departure you will have a short briefing on what to expect and how the safari will be like. The tour guide will explain to you every place of interest that you come across. Drive across the rift valley to arrive at the lodge, where you will pick your picnic lunch before proceeding to the crater.

Ngorongoro Crater is part of the larger Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater is unique and has been regarded as a natural wonder of the world as well as a World Heritage Site. The crater is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world with a diameter of approximately nineteen kilometers with walls of 600 kilometers in height.

The crater which stands 2286 m above the sea level was formed ages ago as a result of volcanic eruption. It is dense in large mammal population than anywhere in the world.

The crater offers spectacular scenery and a variety of flora and fauna, as it is being enclosed in its own ecosystem. The crater is divided into the South west section which comprises of Lerai Forest, the north of the forest is a shallow soda lake called Lake Magadi and to the east you will see Gorigor Swamp and the Ngoitokitok Springs.  The north of the Crater is where you will find the open grasslands and its where most of the residents game resides.

Your visit to the crater will guarantee you to see a large concentration of game. Animals that can be spotted include zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, Grant's gazelle, velvet monkey, Thomson's gazelle as well as other wild animals.  There is a high dense of predators that is supported by the high number of herbivores. Predators that can be spotted include lion, spotted hyenas, cheetah and Leopards which can be seen in the vicinity of the Lerai Forest.

You return back to Arusha city to arrive around 1800 hrs.
