Tour Summary

Mt Kilimanjaro Climbing Lemosho Route is a remote, unspoilt, spectacular way up to the Shira Plateau. This is a route where groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger as the forests around the Lemosho Glades one may encounter elephants, buffalo and other big game animals. The route can either be used to gain the Western Breach route or followed by the Kibo South Circuit to ascend by the easier Barafu Route.

Day 1: Arrival
On arrival at Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport, our tour guide will meet and transfer you to Moshi for overnight and relaxation.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate - Mti Mkubwa camp
After breakfast at your hotel in moshi the tour guide will pick you and drive to Londorossi Park Gate where you will meet the porters and mountain guides before proceeding for the trek. You will also receive packed lunch which will be taken half way the journey before reaching the Machame camping area in the late afternoon

Dinner and Overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa camp - Shira 2 camp
This day you will have a hike of about six hours. After enjoying your breakfast, climb to the top of the forest for about an hour where the trail gradually steepens and enters the giant heather moorland zone. A peaceful trek across the plateau tekes you to Shira 2 Camp on moorland meadows next to a stream. On the easterly direction you will be able to see the Western Breach with its stunning glaciers. The temperatures at the camp will start dropping even to below freezing point.

Day 4: Shira - Lava Tower - Barranco camp
Your hike today will be about seven hours covering a distance of approximately fifteen kilometers on a semi desert habitat. The route turns east into a semi desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower; after five hours walk you will reach an altitude of 4630m. This will be a tiresome trek, lunch to be served on the way. After lunch descent again by almost 680m to the Barranco camping area, on your descent you will have spectacular views to take photographs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall

Day 5: Barranco camp - Barafu camp
After your night at the Great Barranco Wall, you start your hike which will take approximately 7hrs on 13kms on the Alpine desert habitat.  Make your way up, the route then heads down through the Karanga Valley over intervening ridges and valleys, then joins up with the Mweka route. Then turn left up the ridge and about an hour or so you will be at Barafu Hut, the summit is now a further 1345m up and you will make the final ascent the same night. You will go to bed early as early as 1900hrs so that you can relax before waking up at mind night to complete the journey.

Day 6: Barafu camp - Uhuru Peak -Mweka
On this day, rise around 2330hrs, after a light breakfast begin the hike to Uhuru peak. Head in a north westerly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. Have a short rest at Stella Point which is 5685m, you will be rewarded with the most spectacular sunrise you are ever likely to see. From this point you are likely to encounter snow all the way on your two hour ascent to Uhuru Peak. Spend some time at uhuru peak taking photos and enjoying your success before walking back to Barafu from the summit which takes about 3 hours. At Barafu short rest and collect the rest of your gear before heading down to Mweka hut

Day 7: Mweka camp - Mweka Gate
After heavy breakfast, take a walk to the park gate. The distance to be covered will be approximately 15km in duration of three hours. Lunch will be served at Mweka Village before taking a drive to Moshi for overnight and celebrations for the tiring climb

Day 8: Departure
After breakfast, pick you from your hotel by the driver guide and transfer to the airport to catch your flight back home or for your onward flight.
