8 Days Mt Kilimanjaro Trek Machame Route enables you to conquer Africa's highest peak; Mt Mt Kilimanjaro.

The Machame route which boasts several paths to the highest point and back is one of the most popular routes on the mountain. The route approaches from the southwest and descends using Mweka, offering climbers with spectacular views of the extensive Shira Plateau. Climbers sleep in supplied tents at selected campsites.  The minimum number of days required for this route is six days, though seven days is recommended.

The Machame route is possibly the most scenic route to the summit. The days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper. Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival
On arrival our tour guide will pick you from the airport or Arusha City and transfer to Moshi.

Overnight at a hotel in Moshi

Day 2:  Moshi - Machame camp
On this day you will have a briefing, and then followed by breakfast and a forty five minute drive from Moshi to the Machame village where the guides and porters will prepare and pack the supplies and your equipment.

Registration will take place at the gate office before you start your ascent and enter the rain forest. There is a strong possibility of rain in the forest, so the trails can be wet and muddy. Enjoy the spectacular scenery, Keep a look out for black and white colobus monkeys and exotic birds are you proceed with the hike. Halfway to Machame camping area you will enjoy your lunch before arriving at the camping area in the late afternoon.

Day 3: Machame camp - Shira camp
Hiking time for this day is about six hours on a distance of Approximately nine kilometres

After an early morning breakfast at the camp, proceed with the climb to the top of the forest and then for 2 hours at a gentler gradient through the moorland zone. After relaxation and lunch proceed up a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau, you will be able to see in an easterly direction and stunning glaciers on the western side. After a short hike you will reach the Shira campsite which is at 3 840m. The nights will become cooler than the previous nights

Day 4:  Shira - Barranco camp
Today you will hike for Approximately 15 kms. This is a semi desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower. Lunch is served in a designated area before ascending the rocky scree path to Lava Tower about 4630m. One of the toughest days on the trek and at this point first timers might start feeling headaches, irritability and breathlessness. After lunch you descent to the Barranco camping area where you will have the opportunity to take some beautiful photographs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall.

Day 5: Barranco camp - Barafu camp
Todays hiking takes six to seven hours on approximately thirteen kilometers. After spending a night at the Great Barranco Wall, make your way up this awesome looking obstacle - topping out just below the Heim Glacier with spectacular views of Kilimanjaro.  This route heads down through the Karanga Valley over intervening ridges and valleys then joins up with the Mweka route which is a preferred route down from the summit. Turn left up the ridge and proceed to Barafu Hut. Familiarize yourself with the terrain before dark. Prepare your equipment, ski stick and thermal clothing for your summit attempt on the same night. Go to bed early enough to relax.

Day 6:  Barafu camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka
Rise around 2330hrs, after some tea and biscuits, head in a north westerly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. The trek to Stella point takes about six hours. It is most challenging on the route. On arrival at Stella Point (5685m), stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most spectacular sunrise you are ever likely to see if the weather is good.

From Stella Point which takes about hours trek you will normally encounter snow all the way to Uhuru Peak. At Uhuru Peak enjoy your accomplishment and have a day of memories.

Uhuru Mweka Camp
Begin the descent from the summit towards the Barafu camp which takes about three hours. Relax as you collect the rest of the gear. The route is not difficult and will take you down the rock and scree path into the moorland and eventually into the forest. Reach Mweka hut in the late afternoon.

Dinner and Overnight at Mweka Camp

Day 7: Mweka camp - Moshi
After an early breakfast, descend with a scenic hike back to the Park gate. On arrival at Mweka gate you will sign your name and details in a register. Success climbers will receive their summit certificates at this point. Those climbers who reached Stella Point (5685m) are issued with green certificates and those who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. Hike to Mweka village for lunch then transfer to Moshi for overnight and celebrations

Day 8: Departure
After breakfast at your hotel, your tour guide will pick you and be transferred to the Airport to catch your flight back home
