Tour Summary

8 Days Mt Kilimanjaro Climb Rongai Route ascends Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern side of the Mount Kilimanjaro. This route retains a sense of unspoilt wilderness and offers a different perspective on Kilimanjaro by approaching it from the northern side. The package offers two nights accommodation in hotels and the other five nights in full-service camping, private toilet tents provided.  The Rongai Route is also known to be more scenic with spectacular views unlike the Marangu Route where you sleep in huts, the Rongai Route one sleep in tents. The porters will pitch your tent for you (included in the price)

Day 1: Arrival - Moshi
On arrival at Kilimanjaro airport or Arusha, our tour guide will give you a warm welcome and transfer you to Moshi.

Day 2: Rongai Gate - First Cave camp
Pick up from your hotel after breakfast, and transfer to Marangu park gate for registration, later proceed to the Rongai trailhead where you will meet the porters and guides before you begin your hike from the Nale Moru village. You will walk on a small winding path that crosses through farmland and pine plantations and then climbs gently through a forest that shelters a variety of wildlife. The walking trail is not that steep but offers a spectacular country side view.
You will spend the night at First Cave which is approximately 2600 metres above sea level.

Day 3: First Cave - Kikelewa Cave
On this day you will continue up towards Kibo, with superb views of the Eastern icefields on the rim of Kibo. The Approximate walk of the day is six to seven hours, en-route passing second cave and reaching Kikelwa Cave at about 3600 metres in the late afternoon.

Day 4: Kikelewa Cave - Mawenzi Tarn camp
After breakfast, continue the trekking up the mountain, which offers superb views of this wilderness area. Up the mountain the vegetation zone ends shortly before you reach your next camp at Mawenzi Tarn amazingly located beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. The remaining part of the afternoon is spent acclimatizing and exploring the area

Day 5:  Mawenzi Tarn camp - Kibo hut
On this day, after breakfast, continue ascending on the east side of Kibo crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo taking which takes four to five hours to reach Kibo Hut. Spend the remainder part of the day resting in preparation for the final ascent which begins around midnight.

Day 6: Kibo hut - Uhuru Peak - Horombo hut
Rise around 2330hrs or midnight, have a light breakfast as you prepare for your summit ascent. Climb before dawn so that you can reach Uhuru Peak shortly after sunrise. First part of the trail consists of a rocky path to the Hans Meyer Cave which is at 5150m. The path then zigzags up to Gillman's point (5 681m) which is situated on the crater rim. This section requires great physical and mental effort as it is very steep with a lot of stone scree. This is probably the most demanding section of the entire route.

From Gillman's Point you will normally encounter snow all the way up to Uhuru peak which is 5895 meters. On reaching the highest point, you will have total exhilaration and satisfaction. Spend more time at the summit taking photographs depending on the weather condition before the three hour descent back to Kibo hut.  At kibo hut you will have a short rest as you gather all your gear for the ascent and head down to Horombo hut where you will stent the night. The total time spent walking on this day is around fourteen hours, be prepared for a very long and tough day.

Day 7: Horombo hut  for Marangu Gate Moshi Town
After breakfast continue your descent passing thorugh the Mandara hut down to the Marangu gate. you will sign your details at Marangu gate before driving to Moshi for relaxation, dinner and celebrations.

Overnight at Hotel in Moshi

Day 8: Departure Moshi - Arusha City or Kilimanjaro Airport
Pick up from your hotel depending on your departure flight, transfer to the airport to catch your flight back home
